Once In A Lifetime

Happy Monday!

I feel like I’m still trying to recover for the weekend and I’m also feeling a bit behind my usual organization on the cusp of vacation.  But…let’s talk about the last couple of days.

The Garth Brooks concert was amazing.  Garth held a concert in Boise 27 years ago so this was an epic concert and it was held on the “blue turf” of Albertson’s Stadium.  It was not only crazy to see the blue turf covered up but it was also amazing to see the sea of people.  After all, it was me and 44,000 of my closest friends!  Garth actually played two concerts after tickets for the first one sold out in about 35 minutes.  The Friday night show had an added bonus of Blake Shelton singing his new duet with Garth.  But, I also heard Friday had some audio problems, long lines to get in, and started really late.  I was glad Saturday went a little more smoothly and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.

Kenyon ended up coming down with a headache that afternoon so he stayed home.  I ended up being the new DD.  It was so hot and feeling like I needed to keep an eye on those in my group made it easy to stay sober.  I had a pre-beer at The Ram’s beer garden and also one at the stadium plus lots of water.  Oh, and I was able to sell Kenyon’s ticket just by chance at the beer garden.

Phoenix, Stacey, Katie, Nichole, Leticia, and her husband were all in attendance at the concert.  We ended up with great seats in the shade and really close to the stage.  Garth had a round stage with four huge screens so it was easy to be a part of all the action.

We jammed out for almost four hours, three of which Garth played.  It was seriously a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I never thought I’d see him in person in this lifetime.  It was amazing.

I didn’t get home until almost 2am since I had drop-offs to do as well as a couple of drive-thru options for food.  I should have planned better having water and snacks in the car afterwards.  I’ll remember that next time.

The last of my social events concluded on Sunday.  Phoenix and I had tickets, along with a group of her friends, to see The Golden Girls Live at The Egyptian.  It was a drag show that acted out two 30-minute episodes.

We had so much fun and the group did an excellent job.  In addition to have the music and some throw-back commercials, they even filmed the intro ahead of time for us to watch.  It was fantastic!

My Social Calendar

My week of social outings has been a lot of fun.
Monday was Paint Nite at Barrel House.  Julie picked the painting, which wasn’t my most successful.  I ended up having to improvise due to messing up on my elephant and feeling like there was no way to recover.  So, now my painting is of a boat.

Needless to say, we still had a great time.
Tuesday after my WW meeting, I picked up Phoenix so we could Uber downtown for some biking and drinking.  There are so many places we have been wanting to check out and since we didn’t want to worry about drinking and driving, we utilized the Boise Green Bike Rental Program.  It was super easy since Phoenix set up an account to rent the bikes, lock them up, then unlock them and continue the next spot.  We had a blast!

Our starting point was Telaya Wine Company, which is where we attended the Kif Brown Foundation Wine Gala & Auction and have been wanting to get back.  They have the best red wines and so we shared a flight thinking we better start slow.  Plus, I didn’t want to blow through all my points so quickly.
We walked towards the bike rental and found a patio restaurant long the greenbelt called CafĂ© Luciano’s and decided to stop in.  We weren’t ready to eat but will come back for a future lunch.  When the waitress mentioned sangria, we were sold.  It was so light and refreshing.

Once we were on the bikes, our first stop was about 2 miles away at Cinder Wines, another winery I’ve not yet been to.  We went for a glass of wine vs. a flight since neither of us loved the flight choices.  My choice was sweet and crisp with just the right amount of sweetness to it.  Had I not been biking all day, I would have bought a bottle.

We biked about 2 miles back to The Sandbar, which also has a great patio.  We were also in time for happy hour and enjoyed both drinks and an appetizer.  Danielle also met up with us for a visit.  She was going to possibly take us home at this point but we weren’t quite ready to leave.
Back on the bike we headed to Yardarm, a small outside bar with a very beachy feel to it.  We both had a beer and Phoenix ordered the rolled purple sweet potato tacos to try, which were delicious.

Our final stop was Clairvoyant Brewing Company, which I had no idea even existed just like Yardarm.  This is what is great about exploring your city on a bike.  Clairvoyant was a Boise Green Bike stop which meant we could leave our bikes there and catch our ride home.  This brewery has some fantastic beers and we enjoyed the vibe and the bartender.  We also met some out of towners that we visited with and Phoenix’s friend Wendy joined us as well.
By the time Kenyon arrived to pick me up and Stacey arrived to pick up Phoneix, we were ready to go home.  It was a really great day and we covered almost 5.5 miles.  We are stoked to do it again!

I’ve got two more social events on the calendar this week.  The Garth Brooks Concert is tonight and Sunday night Phoenix and I have tickets to see a drag group Golden Girls show.  We are stoked!

Re-Set & Re-Focus

Good Morning and Happy Friday to those starting their weekend.  I am starting my work week, although at the end of it is VACATION!  Let’s get this work week started shall we.

I was in a pretty low mental state yesterday.  I’m not sure why or where it came about but I know part of it was feeling crappy with the start of my WW week in terms of food and alcohol.  I had tons of fun on Tuesday (I still need to recap that for ya) but it was just so much overboard and after I tracked it, I was waaaaaaay over my points and quickly saw a drop on my WSPA.  I was able to recover on Wednesday even though I didn’t plan to be at the car dealership most of the afternoon.  By Thursday, I just had zero motivation.

I woke up yesterday feeling super tired and sluggish and I just couldn’t seem to recover.  We went to breakfast after going to the DMV with plans to have the blueberry Belgian waffle and blueberry compote.  It was delicious.  I also had two poached eggs that Kenyon gave me from his meal.  I even brought my own sugar free coffee creamer and tracked it all right after we ate.  After my hair appointment and some shopping I was flat out exhausted.  I had no motivation to eat healthy and talked myself into pizza buffet AND picked up a pint of Ben & Jerry’s at Walmart afterwards.  The sad part is the ice cream wasn’t even that great.  Ugh.  My day/week was spiraling downhill fast.  I was feeling mad, sad, and frustrated about where I was at in my WW program and why I didn’t have more willpower when it comes to losing weight.  This was a complete 180 from feeling grateful about my body on Tuesday.

Kelsey had asked if I wanted to join her for the Pound class at the gym and since I was planning to visit with Danielle over patio beers.  We both agreed that the gym class was a better idea and I’m so glad I went.  I really needed to re-set and re-focus and this class helped me out so much.  We were actually the only three in the class so it was like our own personal trainer.  I really worked hard on putting it all out there so I could move past this funk.  When I got home, I wanted to get back on track ASAP so even though it was last, I threw a quick dinner in the oven.  I am also on track today with my food for work and dinner plans at home.  I am eating out tomorrow night and there is a high probability of alcohol consumption too.  But, for now, I’m feeling really great and I’m going to keep the momentum going.
