Fitness: I Love Trophies

I decided to take my new Hoka One-One tennis shoes for a walk on the treadmill at work today.

This week has been low on the activity on the front but has been good on the tracking front.  I have, however, blown through my WSPA and am currently also -5 on weekly points.  I am not sure what this will mean for the scale but I am hoping that over all, I’ve been eating less than I have the last few weeks.  I’ll know for sure on Tuesday.

I earned my 1,000 Move Goal award earlier this month.  This means since owning my Apple Watch, I have met my daily movement goal a total of 1,000 times.  Yeah.

I’m working towards a perfect month, which I thought I would have earned in April…but I was shy of meeting my daily goal by a few calories.  This would have happened a couple nights ago but I made sure to walk a few more steps before bedtime.  My daily movement goal is set to 470 calories.  I would have been really bummed if I had missed my perfect month.  May…I have my eye on you!

So far the May Apple Watch Activity Challenge is on track.  I had plans to exercise Friday and Saturday but that didn’t happen.  So, I’m on the treadmill now which means I can’t make excuses for after work.  Plus, I’m a bit busy.  I’ve completed 7 of my required 13 workouts.  While my exercise on the workdays have been lacking, I am getting in my workouts on days off.  Every little bit adds up and makes me feel good.

My Apple Watch has also been rewarding me for my longest streak, currently 44 days.  Once I end my day today, I’ll have completed my movement daily goal for 45 days in a row.  Sweet!

I love trophies.

What You Say And How What You Say Comes Across To Others

Good Morning.

I’m a weeeee bit tired after my evening out seeing comedian Tom Green.  We had a blast.  He is super funny and entertained us so much.  I even got a high five as he walked off the stage.

I have my tickets for comedian Pauly Shore all set for October.  I missed him last year after he had to reschedule so I’m so glad he coming back to Boise.

In terms of weight loss, food, lifestyle changes, etc., I’ve been thinking a lot about what you say and how what you say comes across to others.  This has been on my mind after the month of April and all the negative thoughts I struggled with.

Embarking on a weight loss journey and losing over 100 pounds is all-consuming most of the time.  It is really easy to talk about it non-stop.  I swear to you, when I was in the thick of my journey my coworkers literally hated hearing about it.  Being so consumed by it meant I either wasn’t aware of how much I was talking about it or I guess I just didn’t care.  I hope it wasn’t because I didn’t care.  Now, and more so after April’s outside influences, I am more aware of how it makes me feel when others talk about weight loss non-stop.  It can be as easy as using words like “should” or “shouldn’t” or maybe even “I’m on a diet, I can’t have that.”  Oh that irks me.  I’ve worked so hard to change my thinking from negative to positive that I hate hearing from mentally closed off people.

That was our meeting topic last week.  It was about shifting your mindset from closed thinking (i.e. “I can’t eat my extra points, I’ll gain weight”) to open thinking (i.e. “Maybe I should try to eat more protein this week” or “Maybe I’ll eat one less dessert one day this week”).  The smallest shift in thinking more positively can result in big changes over time.  That narrow mindset of obsessive weight loss thinking also takes time to shift.  But, it is so important when trying to live your best life.  And really, nobody likes to hear their super high fat/calorie/point food isn’t “good for them” and they “should make a better decision.”  We are all adults, we can all make our own choices.

Most of the time, distorted thinking is a mental hang up with the individual person and not meant towards the outward audience.  We are shaped by our experiences in life both the positive and the negative.  I worked really hard last year to shift my mindset to see the positive aspects of my body and to learn to somewhat love the excess I packed on.  I’m finding more and more as the fog of April lifts, I’m appreciating myself more and loving what I see in the mirror more.

This N' That Of The Weekend

Oh my gosh, it has been a busy morning today and now it is officially afternoon.  Happy Friday.

I was frantically trying to get Garth Brooks tickets, thankfully Kenyon did!  It sold out in less than an hour.  I was also trying to finish our bulletin board at work.  So, I’m feeling a bit stressed from this morning.  I’m meeting up with Phoenix after work to see comedian Tom Green tonight so I’m super stoked for that.

Speaking of meet-ups, it was a busy “weekend” for me.  Tuesday after my WW workshop, I met Mom to see the new movie POMS, which was adorable.  Then we met Dad for lunch at Idaho Pizza Company.  On Wednesday, I saw that Flying Pie Pizza in Nampa was giving away free lunch since they are starting up their pizza buffet.  Pizza two days in a row?  Yum!  I invited Mom and Dad along and enjoyed a second visit with them.  Sadly, I wasn’t as controlled with the buffet but I did enjoy it all.

Wednesday afternoon, Kenyon and I drove to Twin Falls to take part in the Shoshone Falls Laser & Lights Show.  This was the second year and it was impressive.  We hope to go again.

Due to the late evening, we rented a hotel room in Twin Falls complete with a Jacuzzi tub.  I really wish our house had a big soaker tub.

Thursday morning we grabbed breakfast at Abracadabra’s Breakfast & Bistro.  They were very accommodating of special orders and we really enjoyed the food.

Thursday afternoon, I attended a retirement party for my cousin Yvonne, who is the principle at Birch Elementary School.  My parent’s brought Grandpa with them, which Yvonne loved.  Here is a photo of Grandpa, my Great-Aunt Dorothy (Yvonne’s Mom), and Yvonne.  Congrats on your retirement.

Whew.  It was a busy few days off and of course they flew by in a flash.  I’m back at work today with a few social commitments in the evenings this week.  This whole month of May is jammed packed.
