The End Of The Scale Strike...For Today At Least

I ended my strike with the scale yesterday morning.

After talking to an online WW friend I decided to get on the scale at home.  I wasn’t surprised by the number either.

182.0

When I looked back on my weight record my last WI at WW was the first week of November and was 182.8.  Not only did I not have a gain in the last month but I had a slight loss.  So really I can’t be bummed.

The fear of seeing the 180s, or more so the 182-183 range, is what has kept me from getting on the scale the last couple of weeks.  I still think about it when I see the scale in the bathroom.  But then the thought is gone.  So I just haven’t gotten on it.  And I feel okay about that decision.

However, after talking to my WW friend Kathy, I know that it is still important to have that double check of the scale from time to time.  I try not to let the number affect me but almost seven years later it still does.

One thing Kathy pointed out to me is while I might try to make it seem like this weight gain doesn’t bother me, it does because I talk about it.  Honestly, it is on my mind but overall I feel pretty good.  Even after stepping on the scale  I still have no desire to get on the scale next week.

A loss of 0.8 pounds in a month is a good thing.  So I need to stay positive and just keep doing what I am doing.  Would I like to have lost more?  Of course I would.  I need to learn how to accept that I might have to be in the 180s for a little while.

It is kind of funny because I got a FitBit and when I was entering my information in at the time of set up it asked for my weight.  I almost put 180 but decided to put 182.  I think I already knew what was going on and not getting on the scale was a reason not to admit it?

In either case….onward we go!

How To Take A Christmas Card Photo In The Middle Of The Night

Kenyon and I had to get creative with our Christmas card photos this year. Yep I am one of those couples that sends an annual photo card of just us. Since there aren't going to be any cute kids in our future our family and friends have to put up with seeing our faces on a card once a year.

You would think with all the traveling we do that we would have oodles of pictures to use for our Christmas card photo. But, sadly, we don't. I always think about it but it is so different than planning to take a photo.

“What if my hair doesn't look good?”

“What if the clothes we are wearing aren't right?”

“Oops, I forgot to bring Santa Hats to our vacation in the middle of nowhere!”

How does Kenyon put up with me?

Since we are both on graveyard it was stressing me out a little that we didn't really have anybody to take our photo or really a good place, in daylight, to take it.

So, Kenyon attached the camera to his tripod and we set up our living room as a backdrop for photos. We set up the tree and then put wrapping paper on the white blinds behind it to create a background.

I was happy with how they turned out and used three different ones on our photo card this year.

I am determined to get some good photos while we are in Hawaii so I can put one on our Christmas card next year!

I Have No Home

My connection to my WW meeting and my leader is very important to me.  Since I rotate shits at work every ten weeks it sometimes means I have to change WW meetings.  Usually the change is smooth as we have so many wonderful leaders in our area.

However, sometimes the change is tough.  And right now it is a really rough time.  I feel like I have no home.

I simply have not found a meeting I click with.  My plan is to attend both of leader Natalie’s meetings, one on Tuesday and one on Thursday and see if one is a good fit.  So far I have attended the Tuesday meeting and I did like the members.  The room they are in though (held in a church) is kind of stinky!  Also, they don’t have an actual credit card machine and since I am a paying member now it takes the charge twice as long to show up in my account.  None of this is a deal breaker but annoying.

I didn’t attend last Thursday’s meeting since it was closed for Thanksgiving and I am not sure yet about this Thursday.  If I don’t make it this week then I’ll check it out next week.  I hope I can make one of these two places my new (temporary) WW home for the next four weeks.

I am also struggling a bit right now as I feel I have to justify my reasoning for NOT stepping on the scale.  I have zero desire to step on the scale at both my house and my meeting.  When I attend a meeting where the receptionist doesn’t know me or where the leader doesn’t have a good understanding as to what is going with me right now, it feels like such a struggle to just pay, pass, and take a seat.

It is hard to explain where I am at right now mentally and although I am in unchartered territory I know everything is going to be okay.

Our 2014 schedule at work is now completed and I am very happy to see that I get to attend my favorite Tuesday meeting for most of next year.  I will have to change meetings for only a total of 20 weeks and 10 of those 20 I will get to be at the Monday morning meeting where my Tuesday leader and my very first leader are in attendance.

Ahhhh….there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  I just have to hold on for four more weeks!
