This week is
National Telecommunicators Week, also known as Dispatcher Appreciation Week.
The job of a
police, fire, and emergency services dispatcher isn’t easy. We work long hours, rotating shifts and an
abundance of overtime. We miss family
functions, time with friends, and important events. But, that is the life we chose.
We are among
a small class, the elite few so-to-speak, who can listen with both ears,
conduct multiple conversations at once, and type all important information into
our CAD system.
Our only
goal at the end of the day is get our officers, fire fighters, and emergency
services personnel home safe. It is an
important job and often a thankless job.
We are rarely seen but always heard.
